I am devastated. I think you already know why. Patrick Swayze died today.
The news is really too fresh for the proper post that the love of my life deserves, so for now, I'm going to watch Dirty Dancing and cry. I don't know if I'm going to make it though. Right now I can barely stand to look at my DD wall calendar. (If you think I'm exaggerating, please consult any member of my family immediately.)
There's also a North and South marathon in my near future. Please don't interrupt me. Although you might want to call me tomorrow around 4 p.m. and remind me I still have to go to work.
For now, I can only leave you with this. And this:
Only my brothers will really get the significance of this clip from North and South to me, but let's just say when I was about six years old, I ran around the house having fake duels with Bent, exclaiming, "Have a cigar!" and "At your service, sir." (Yeah, I know now that they're not actually saying, "have a cigar." Shut it.)
God, I love Patrick Swayze. May he rest in peace.

If I don't promote myself, who will? Shameless plug:
My first review for Feminist Review was published/posted today! Check me out. It was also cross-posted on Gender Across Borders. BOO-YAH.
Seeing my byline makes me so happy. It makes me almost as happy as the following:
You've missed Swazye fest, haven't you? You're welcome.

Poll Results Are In!
And I am going to completely disregard them and thank you all for voting Swayze.
Get ready for Sunday. It's going to be a good one.

Sunday Swayze Fest: Donnie Darko Edition
Thanks to my brother, the closet #1 Swayze lover of the Hamm family, I found the inspiration I needed for Swayze Fest this week. Here, we find Swayze at his creepiest:
This just reminded me of being 19 and telling everyone who would listen how much I loved Donnie Darko. Particularly this scene (please ignore the weird unrelated audio at the start of clip):
"What's a fuck ass?"

Special Edition: Monday Swayze Fest
First off, let me apologize for ruining your Sunday yesterday. I know you were all anxiously waiting for Swayze Fest, and then it never happened. How could I?
Here's what happened. I was ready to post a very special Swayze tribute, and then I decided I'd first watch the Barbara Walters interview with Patrick and his wife discussing his pancreatic cancer. Everything went downhill from there. I've mostly been in denial that the love of my life has Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, but now I can't deny it anymore. I got so upset I almost threw my Macbook out the window. And we all know that would have been a disaster.
To cheer us all up, I have a special Swayze treat for you on this Monday evening. Enjoy.

Sunday Swayze Fest!
I know you've been waiting for this one. I think we're finally ready for it:

It's Sunday! You know what that means!
SUNDAY SWAYZE FEST!
Swayze was actually in my dream last night--completely PG kind of dream, though I probably shouldn't tell random people I work with about my dreams about Patrick, cause I think I'm freaking them out. I'm pretty sure having a Dirty Dancing wall calendar in my room is the main cause of this, because the Swayze dreams have been happening on a monthly basis this year. Why I'm telling coworkers about my dreams, I don't know, but...yeeeah. Basically in these dreams I keep randomly running into him (or waiting on him at my bar) and professing my love to him. He usually just pats me on the shoulder and looks nervous.
He's certainly never doing anything this badass:
"You're too stupid to have a good time!" HA!

Sunday Swayze Fest
And you thought I forgot!
This Sunday, the scene from "Dirty Dancing" that Rachael Yamagata tried to tell her audience was from "Ghost." Good thing I was in the audience to correct her! Yeeeah. And good thing I ruined all chances of becoming Rachael's new BFF that night by A) calling her out in front of her crowd and B) trying to smile at her in the ladies' room but accidentally grimacing instead. Dammit. But I know my Swayze, and I certainly know when someone's reenacting a Johnny moment like this one. (YouTube is not letting me embed any of the videos that have this scene, and it's making me very angry. So angry that I'm forced to find another fantastic Swayze moment to cheer me up.)
Ahhh, now I feel better. Orry, I mean Swayze, is so sexy when he's angry:

Sunday Swayze Fest
After surviving my mind numbing drive from Indy to Chicago today, I was unpacking and glanced at Patrick Swayze’s beautiful face staring at me from my Dirty Dancing wall calendar. Yeah, that’s right, my Dirty Dancing wall calendar. Best Christmas present since North and South on DVD.
Anyway, all this inspired me to share a little Swayze with…umm, the readers of my blog? HA! Maybe if my “readers” are lucky, Swazye Fest could become an annual Sunday occurrence.
So, my Sunday gift to you: Orry Maine rescuing Madeleine. The Oscars have nothing on this scene. And if you have no clue who Orry or Madeleine are, well, you will after this.
